Hawaiian tradition
Lei giving dates back to early Hawaiʻi, where lei were worn by aliʻi (royalty) and used to symbolize status, connection and respect within the community.
Traditionally, lei were made from natural materials found in Hawaiʻi — flowers, leaves, shells, seeds and feathers — each chosen for its meaning and purpose.
The act of giving a lei represents aloha — love, honor and welcome. It is a gesture that connects people, whether arriving, celebrating or saying goodbye.
Lei making continues today as a respected cultural practice, passed down through generations and shared to welcome others into the spirit of the islands.
Our story
My first trip to Maui, Hawaiʻi in May of 1986 was a turning point in my life. I had been working on a psychiatric unit for veterans with PTSD and was feeling burned out. The moment I arrived on Maui, I felt a deep sense of peace and relaxation. What struck me most was the kindness and generosity of the people I met — genuinely friendly and welcoming, without expecting anything in return.
With the help of an uncle who already lived on the island, I made the move to Maui. Over the past 40 years I’ve had the privilege of welcoming many friends and family members with a traditional lei greeting. It’s a small gesture, but one that brings so much joy and aloha spirit to those who experience it. My goal is to share this same spirit with visitors from around the world.

Our booking process is very simple: choose your lei and quantity, then give us your contact information and flight details. You’ll receive a confirmation with your total, which is due at the greeting. Nothing is charged when you book, and Hawaiʻi General Excise Tax is added to the prices shown.
As a courtesy to you, we monitor your flight on FlightAware and can accommodate both early and late arrivals — early arrivals are no problem at all. As a courtesy to us, we’d appreciate notice of any change to your flight schedule, as we source fresh flowers for every greeting.
Absolutely. We welcome families, weddings, business retreats, reunions and more. We kindly ask that you contact us for groups of eight or more so we can be sure to coordinate your experience.
Yes, and it’s something we arrange often. Share the traveler’s flight details and the name you’d like on the welcome sign, and we’ll greet them for you. If you’d like it kept as a surprise, just let us know when you book.
Your comfort matters to us. Please let us know in advance if anyone in your group has allergies to flowers or plants. We also offer kukui nut lei and shell lei on request, and local men routinely wear kukui nut and maile leaf lei, both available as well.
